The ‘Italian Beauty Day’ event, organised in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), Cosmetica Italia and Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, took place on 6 June 2024 at the Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus in Istanbul.
‘Italian Beauty Day’ started with the opening speeches of Elena Clemente, Consul General of Italy in Istanbul and Marco Pintus, Director of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). Afterwards, Fabio Franchina, Vice President of Cosmetica Italia and Patrizia Necchi, Cosmoprof official, made presentations on the Italian cosmetics industry and Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, respectively. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion with Turkish representatives of Italian cosmetics manufacturers. At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to experience demonstrations with beauty products produced in Italy.
Marco Pintus, Director of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), drew attention to the impressive progress in trade between Turkey and Italy in recent years. Pintus stated that total trade between Turkey and Italy reached an all-time high of 27.4 billion USD in 2023, and that there was another 23% increase in bilateral trade in the first four months of 2024. He emphasised that after a remarkable 30% increase in Italy’s exports to Turkey in the last 2 years, there was an even bigger increase of 40% in the first 4 months of this year.
“Last year, according to official Turkish data, Italy ranked third in Turkey’s cosmetics imports after France and Germany, with a value of USD 134 million and a market share of around 9%. This was the highest value ever recorded for our cosmetics exports to Turkey,’ Pintus said, adding that Italy is also growing as a global player, exporting cosmetics worth USD 8.2 billion last year, compared to only USD 5.8 billion before the pandemic. He emphasised that Italian companies support this growth by producing high quality, natural and sustainable products.
In his presentation, Fabio Franchina, Vice President of Cosmetica Italia, emphasised the importance of the Italian cosmetics industry in the world and the reliability, quality and innovation of the ‘Made in Italy’ brand.
Fabio Franchina: ‘Turkey has established itself as the 16th export destination for our industry and recorded an increase of 38.5% compared to 2022.In the last 10 years, the export value has tripled, driven by strong demand for make-up and skincare products, which represent more than half of Italian cosmetic exports to Turkey. This 10-year growth trend is a testament to the hard work and quality that our companies put into their products.I am confident that by continuing on this path, we will be able to reach even more ambitious targets.”
